4. Solar Power System Installation
More and more City Light customers are showing interest in solar electric systems for their homes and businesses. Why? Solar electric systems are safe, reliable, pollution free, and use a renewable source of energy—the sun. Most systems have no moving parts and are increasingly easy to install. The option of net metering, or interconnecting a customer connecting the system to the utility grid, makes solar electric systems more economically viable. Federal and state legislation has created new financial incentives for owning and operating a solar electric system. On installation day, you can expect us to have your solar panels up and ready in about 4-8 hours. Once we’re finished, we’ll show you how to turn the system on and off.
5. Solar Power System Activation
Your local utility and municipality will need to inspect your solar power system to give final permission for us to connect your panels to the grid and start generating clean energy. This is called Permission to Operate, or PTO. Once PTO is granted, your panels are ready to be turned on, and you can start saving. It usually takes about 2 to 4 weeks depends on the area of the country you live in, for this inspection to take place. Once your system is inspected and your meter is swapped with a bi-directional meter, your utility company representative will turn your system on. In short, you are now producing your own electricity! Hurray!
